Halite crystals – also known as road salt, have a history of overuse in New York State. Recently, there have been several studies shedding light on the environmental impacts the excessive use of this material is having on our ecosystems. The projects within Salis Fabula (Salt Stories) looks to examine the various transformations and transmutations of Halite as a material in addition to experiments documenting and measuring the impact within my local communities – especially that of local waterways such as Round Lake and the Hudson River.
